Visit to Cultybraggan Camp

Visit to Cultybraggan Camp

Saturday 20 April 2024

The ladies of Ruskie had a most enjoyable and informative morning at Cultybraggan Camp. We had two excellent tour guides....John and Bob - thank you gents for telling us the history of the camp

Afterwards we made our way to Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre for refreshments - a great way to finish our day away

The camp lies close to the village of Comrie, in west Perthshire, Scotland. It was first used as a prisoner of war (PoW) camp during World War 2 and then became an Army training area. It later housed a Royal Observer Corps (ROC) nuclear monitoring post, and a Regional Govt Headquarters (RGHQ).

Named PoW camp No 21, built in 1941 to house 4,000 Category A prisoners, Cultybraggan was a 'black camp', holding those considered the most committed and fanatical.

We have passed the camp many times and we all agreed it was well worth a visit ..................and the sun shone
