Where is Ruskie.jpg

Ruskie Rural was started in 1926 in the small hamlet of Ruskie. The hall where the meetings are held used to be the local school.

A number of years ago the school was gifted to the rural by Mrs Graham of Rednock. The members and visitors enjoy the atmosphere of Ruskie Hall with its coal fire and cheery welcome. A few of our older members are past pupils of the school, so it holds a lot of memories for them.

The rural is going from strength to strength and has members from a very wide area. Our meetings start at 7.30pm and are held on the second Tuesday of the month from September through to May. Over the year we have a varied and interesting syllabus, something to suit everyone. Visitors are always welcome and can be assured of a very good supper.

Ruskie Rural is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills and have fun - why not come along and join us?

"The Ruskie Burn" by M. Goodwin

The Ruskie burn wimples doon
Frae Ruskie loch sae bonny
Doon through the muir where heather blooms
It can't be matched wi' ony
It leaves the whinny muir ahint
Through fields o' waving corn
Past Rednock Mill's deserted wa's
Noo standin' sae forlorn

Richt doon the brae into the wood
Sae cool on a summer's day
Where mony a weary fisherman
Has rested on his way
It winds its way through whin and briar
Tho' mony a shady nook
And the birdies singin' in the trees
Keep time wi' this happy brook

Doon through the meadows' flowery banks
Where the water-hens abide
And there the bonnie broom and whin
Are growin' side by side
And underneath auld Ruskie Brig
And ower the waterfall
Where in the long clear summer nicht
The water oozel calls

It rushes on doon through the glen
Past Hogwood's auld meal mill
Where farmers used tae grind their corn
But noo it's standin' still
It wends its way doon tae the Tarr
And there it taks the turn
And on until it's lost fae view
Intae the Goodie Burn
