Monthly Meeting - “The Birds and The Bees”

Monthly Meeting - “The Birds and The Bees”

Tuesday 11 February 2020

Storm Ciara did not stop our members making their way to Ruskie Hall. 🌬🍃 🌨❄

Anne gave a warm welcome to our speaker for the evening, Sandra Stewart. Sandra has a BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Zoology and diploma in Farm Business Organisation and Management. Sandra has a part-time contract with Forth River Trust working with farmers and land managers on the Allan Water catchment helping deliver projects to improve the river and surrounding habitats. She explained its very much a partnership between the farmers and the Forth River Trust - not all farmers want change! She is particularly interested in peatland restoration and in pollinators, such as bumblebees, honey and solitary bees. Sandra told us about a new scheme she is involved in called the Birds and the Bees project. Sandra explained if we all did a little to help the environment, our world would be a better place to live in. Sandra is a close neighbour to Ruskie Rural and it was lovely to welcome her to our meeting.

Judging by the steady stream of people wanting to chat to Sandra over tea it was a topic that everyone found very interesting.

A delicious supper was provided by Catriona, Sharon and Sheena 🍰☕
