Monthly Meeting - "Friends Talking to Friends, Telling Stories to our Children"

Monthly Meeting - "Friends Talking to Friends, Telling Stories to our Children"

Tuesday 8 October 2019

It was a busy night in Ruskie Hall. President, Anne extended a very warm welcome to members and friends.

The speaker for the evening was Alison Burnley who gave a most informative and enjoyable talk on the Quaker Tapestry. The Quaker Tapestry was started in 1981 and by 1996 the tapestry was complete. Four thousand people participated in the making of the 77 panels. They were aged from 3 years to 93 and were involved in designing and creating this amazing celebration of life, people and events across the centuries. Some people made whole panels, some put in just one stitch. In the process of making it, they had to invent a completely new stitch – 'The Quaker Stitch'. The panels are exquisite and it was super to learn a bit about the history and the story behind the Quakers and see it brought to life through embroidery. There were a lot of questions from the floor and a few of the ladies are already planning a visit to Kendal to see the embroidered panels.

A delicious supper was provided by: Liz Black, Marjorie Baxter & Janice Milne
