AGM and Monthly Meeting - "Something for Nothing"

AGM and Monthly Meeting - "Something for Nothing"

Tuesday 10 May 2022

Anne Artis gave a very warm welcome to the last meeting of this year and the AGM. Apologies were read out. The treasuer Helen Little then gave a comprehensive report on the finances of Ruskie Rural. This was followed by a very touching Presidents report by Anne Artis. Anne went over the last year's meetings and events and reminded us all how lucky we are to have the Rural and the friendship it brings.

Congratulations went to Liz Black and Elizabeth Dykes who were placed 3rd in the Morton Pairs at the SC&WP Federation Spring Meeting, along with Sheena Gibson and Norma Brewster for getting commended. Liz Black also got Highly Commended for her jar of marmalade and Anne Artis got commended for her marmalade.

World Textile Day on 21st of May in the Bridge of Allan Church Hall promises to be a fascinating day and is recommended to all.

There is now a waiting list for the trip to Pitlochry to see Sunshine on Leith. Please contact Liz Black if you can not now attend.

Anne Artis then introduced Mark Drury, our speaker for the evening.

Mark makes jewellery from old silver spoons, in many shapes and forms. He gave us an insight into how he came about this. He started off studying art in Glasgow, then turned to making jewellery when he realised that houses we getting small and TVs bigger, so not so much room for large paintings! He told us stories about his travels around the world and how this influenced and changed him. His jewellery is all sold in aid of Strathcarron Hospice. He brought a beautiful array of jewellery with him, and again, everything that was sold went to Strathcarron, a very worthy cause. Anne thanked Mark for a very interesting and informative talk.

The competitions were as follows

3 suggestions for next year's syllabus

1st Anne Artis

2nd Christine Bauer

3rd Allison McLeod

Homemade bag

1st Alison Smillie

2nd Elizabeth Dykes

3rd Norma Brewster

Alison Smillie won the Puskie Plate for her homemade bag.

We had two ladies from Kippen with us to count the votes for the committee, which they duly read out. Anne thanked them for their time.

Anne then wished everyone a good summer, and hoped we will all be back home in Ruskie Hall for next year's meetings.
