Monthly Meeting - "The Best Time to Plant a Tree"

Tuesday 14 March 2023

"The Best Time to Plant a Tree is Twenty Years Ago. The Second Best time is Now"

Anne, rang the school bell and extended a warm welcome to all. She then went over the business , giving us dates of forthcoming events. Stewarding at two Wild Fox Events, Federation Spring meeting on the 29th April, Federation Quiz on 17 April hosted by Drymen S.W.I. & World Textile Day on 3rd June in Bridge of Allan...........lots for the diary!

She then handed the meeting over to Ian Baird of The Woodland Trust. Ian first explained how he became a volunteer with the Woodland Trust after retiring. His volunteering is very varied and takes him down many different paths including collecting seeds, planting trees with children/adults, giving talks and so much more. Benefits of trees: Health & wellbeing, clean air, cool cities, create natural habitats for wildlife, provide places for play and transform landscapes.

Mission Statement: Create, Protect and Restore a land rich in native woods & trees for people and wildlife

Ians talk was accompanied by a very informative power point which brought to life the wonderful countryside we live in........... its really up to us to care for it. Ians presentation was filled with humour and the questions afterwards came quickly from the floor.
