Carse of Stirling Group Meeting

Carse of Stirling Group Meeting

Thursday 19 October 2017

(Carse of Stirling Group - Cambusbarron, Dunblane, Gargunnock, Ruskie)

Anne Artis welcomed members and guests to Thornhill Church Hall to hear Miles Harrison speak on “getting out of his comfort zone” and conquering his fear of heights as he travels the world taking on more difficult, and extreme challenges. He shared stories, photos and videos from Torres del Paine, Kilimanjaro, Nepal, Ecuador and Indonesia where he has raised funds for charities while (almost)... scaling the closest peak on earth to the sun… and learning about tuk tuk maintenance along the way. His “waterfall” series of adventures from Victoria where he proposed to his wife, to Niagra on his honeymoon and Angel Falls for his 25th anniversary are a celebration of his greatest achievement - his family. He reminded us of the importance of training and research, having the right equipment and a rescue plan that you can put into action.

It was suggested that the Group business meetings be limited to once per year. A number of members expressed a wish to meet a second time, perhaps for something more social or educational – further opinions will be gathered before formalising any proposals.

Ruskie Committee provided a super supper which was appreciated by all the guests.
